Yes, I have the E-Revo VXL as well as the 1/8 E-Revo, and it will fit fine in both.

Sounds like a dodgy connection somewhere - perhaps a dry or cracked solder joint between the battery and the ESC. My first thought would be the battery connectors, so if it happens with just one battery then it's pretty obvious that it's the connector on that battery. If it happens with all batteries, then check the battery connector attached to the ESC. Turn the model on, and then try wiggling the various joints in the power leads to see if it turns off - if it does, there's your problem. If that's all ok, it's probably something inside the ESC casing, in which case contact Traxxas and see if they'll swap the ESC.

So far, no problems, but it's not had much use yet - it got one run outside and the ESC died! I'm sending it back to Modelsport this week, so as soon as it's been sorted I can try it out some more. Anyway, the first obvious things to try are new batteries in the DX3S, and rebinding the receiver to the transmitter. Assuming you've already tried those steps, try the other receiver you got with the DX3S and see if you get the same problem. Finally, if you can, try the receiver with another ESC/motor combo - to see if it's just the Castle kit that's the problem... The whole point of 2.4GHz is that there shouldn't be any interference, so perhaps it's a problem with the ESC?

Wondered if you've had any issues with your radio on your E-Revo. My DX3S started glitching lightly as the truck passed around metal objects a while back and has progressively gotten worse and worse up to the point that I cannot drive the vehicle anymore because it makes the throttle/brake glitch very badly in any conditions.

The only things that have recently changed are the fact that I upgraded to an MMM brushless system, other than that everything has been fine.

Thank you for your feed.
